project overview and involvement

Title: 3D Artist

Location: Bettis Atimic Power Laboratory (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania)

Dates: 7/2009-12/2011

This project was conducted out of Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, in Pittsburgh, PA. Because of the nature of this project, a secret level security clearance was required. I worked with a team of 3d artists and programmers, modeling the nuclear power plant inside the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) and importing into CryEngine3.

The team made a trip to Norfolk Virginia to gather photographs and make laser scans of the entire reactor room. We then imported liar data from the laser scans into 3d studio max. With the Lidar data as a guide we accurately modeled the inside of the engine room in 3d. After that task was completed, we used the photographs to apply textures to the models.

The next step required us to import the models into CryEngine3. As a team, we attended training workshops with Real time Immersive in Orlando, Florida. At the training workshops we learned all about CryEngine3 and how to integrate it into our project.
After the CryEngine3 training we imported the models and created a virtual environment of the reactor room.
